During paranormal investigations, various types of equipment are used to aid in communication and investigation. As a clairvoyant, I employ my gifts to conduct investigations, utilising methods such as writing, drawing, and recording communication exercises. Sometimes, when playing back recorded audio, Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) can be detected as spirit voices.
Other team members utilise different means of communication and investigation. Here are some commonly used paranormal investigation tools:
EVP Devices:
EVP devices are popular among investigators for capturing electronic voice phenomena. These devices record audio during investigations, allowing for potential spirit voices to be captured and analysed.
EMF Reader:
An EMF meter, also known as an EMF reader or detector, measures the electromagnetic fields generated by electrically charged objects. These readings are displayed on a graph, providing insight into the presence of electromagnetic fluctuations in the environment.
Rempods:
Rempods are devices designed to detect static electricity and energy disturbances. They emit lights and sounds when there is a change in the surrounding static levels, indicating potential paranormal activity.
Motion Music Box:
This device is triggered by motion and plays a tune when movement is detected. Equipped with a motion sensor, it responds to human, animal, object, and potentially ghostly movements, often accompanied by light activation.
EMT Bear:
The EMT Bear is a cute and cuddly trigger object that combines multiple ghost hunting tools into a single device. It packs various equipment designed to assist in paranormal investigations.
Laser Grid Pen:
A laser grid pen projects a square grid or multiple dots instead of a single dot. It helps create a visual grid pattern, allowing investigators to detect any disturbances or movement within the grid, providing potential evidence of paranormal activity.
Temperature Sensor:
Thermometers are commonly used by ghost hunters to identify cold spots that may indicate the presence of a ghost, spirit, or other paranormal entities.
Motion and Vibration Sensors:
In paranormal investigations, detecting motion and subtle vibrations is crucial. Various tools and sensors can help sense and alert investigators to potential movement or activity.
Trigger Objects:
When using trigger objects, it’s important to have a connection between the object and the location or spirit. This connection allows the spirit to recognise and interact with the object. Common trigger objects include cat balls and noise-making items that react when moved.
Spirit Box:
A spirit box, also known as a ghost box, scans AM and FM frequencies randomly to establish communication with spirits. It captures snippets of words or phrases from the white noise, potentially allowing for spirit communication.
Spirit Box (Estes Method):
The Estes Method combines a spirit box with sensory deprivation. One person wears a blindfold and listens to the spirit box through headphones while another person asks questions. The blindfolded individual shares any auditory information received through the spirit box.
Alice Box Ovilus III:
The Alice Box Ovilus III is an innovative ghost box that converts environmental readings into real words. It interprets changes in electromagnetic frequencies and temperature, potentially providing meaningful responses to questions posed during investigations.
Human Pendulum:
The human pendulum involves using one of the investigators as a method of communication during paranormal investigations. The person acts as a pendulum, responding to questions by swaying or moving in specific directions.
Pendulums:
Pendulums are widely used tools for communicating with paranormal entities. Investigators observe the pendulum’s movements, which are believed to provide answers or guidance.
Mirrors:
Mirrors can be used in paranormal investigations for various purposes. Some theories suggest that by looking into a mirror and asking questions aloud, it may be possible to receive answers from the other side. Mirrors are also used in techniques such as scrying (divination through observation of a reflective surface) and conducting séances.
Talking Boards:
While Ouija boards are often controversial, some investigators find them effective for communicating with spirits. It is important to use them responsibly and seek the guidance of a professional to ensure proper protection.
Table Tipping:
Table tipping is a séance technique where participants sit around a table, place their hands on it, and wait for rotations or movements. The table is believed to serve as a means of communicating with spirits, spelling out words or sentences by tilting or shifting to specific letters.
Automatic Writing:
Automatic writing is a method of communication performed without the conscious mind’s control. It involves holding a pen to paper and distracting oneself, such as by watching a movie or reading a book. With patience, messages, names, dates, or other information may be spontaneously written down.
Automatic Art:
Engaging in automatic art can bring joy, whether you consider yourself creative or not. Similar to automatic writing, clear your mind completely, raise your vibration, and let yourself be distracted. You’ll be amazed at what comes to life on the page through this process.
Psychometry:
Psychometry, also known as token-object reading or psychoscopy, is a form of extrasensory perception where individuals claim the ability to make relevant associations from an object of unknown history by physically contacting it. Psychometry is a great practice for beginner psychics looking to enhance their intuitive abilities, as it involves holding a physical item.
Pyromancy:
Pyromancy involves communicating with spirits through a candle flame. Begin by setting your intentions and grounding yourself while protecting your energy. Light a white candle and gaze into the flame for a few moments. Then, step back from the candle, positioning yourself at a good distance, such as sitting on a sofa, to prevent your energy from interfering with the flame. Start by asking simple yes or no questions and observe the candle’s response. You will intuitively understand a yes or no answer from the spirit. Typically, the candle remains still for a no answer and dances for a yes.
As previously mentioned, being a team player is of utmost importance when engaging in paranormal investigations, and understanding your designated role within the team is essential. Here are some potential roles that team members can fulfill:

Sceptics may participate in investigations to provide alternative perspectives and ensure the rigorous examination of paranormal claims.
10 Essential Points to Consider Before Embarking on a Ghost Hunt
- Embrace company
Never venture alone when embarking on a ghost hunt. Bring along a few friends who can offer assistance if needed, while also providing additional perspectives to validate potential paranormal occurrences. - Opt for accessible locations
Ensure the haunted site you plan to investigate is accessible to the public and has a history of reported paranormal activity. Trespassing should be strictly avoided, and obtaining written consent from property owners is advisable to prevent any legal complications. Always seek permission when exploring private properties. - Preliminary daytime exploration
Visit the location during daylight hours to familiarise yourself with the surroundings. Take note of the specific areas where paranormal phenomena have been reported. - Thorough preparation
Conduct thorough research on documented hauntings and the entities associated with the location. Dress appropriately, wearing comfortable walking shoes and warm clothing to ensure your comfort throughout the investigation. - Invoke protection and guidance
Depending on your personal beliefs, say a prayer, meditate, or send positive intentions to the universe before commencing your ghost hunt, seeking protection and guidance. - Exercise courtesy and respect
Approach ghost hunting with the same courtesy you would extend to entering someone’s home. Respect the spirits’ presence and intentions, clearly conveying your harmless intentions. Seek permission from spirits before taking photographs, and express gratitude for any responses or interactions. Kindly request that spirits do not follow you upon leaving. - Trust your instincts
Pay attention to your intuition throughout the investigation. If you feel compelled to take a photo or sense an overwhelming urge to leave, trust those instincts as possible signs from the supernatural realm. - Vocalise your intentions
Before departing the haunted location, recite another prayer aloud, expressing gratitude to the spirit world and requesting that nothing and no one follows you home. - Leave no trace
Respect both the deceased and the living by leaving the location as you found it. Do not disturb or damage any property during the investigation.
Concerns about encountering demons:
It’s important to differentiate between spirits and demons. Spirits are often manifestations of human desires and emotions from their earthly lives. They may exhibit various behaviors, such as remaining unseen, being noisy or talkative, or moving objects. Spirits are commonly encountered during building renovations or construction.
Demons, on the other hand, are a distinct and malevolent category. They are considered fallen angels according to Judeo-Christian beliefs and were never human. While paranormal teams occasionally claim to communicate with demons, it is rare to stumble upon a demon during an investigation. Demons are typically summoned intentionally.
Popular demonic attributes include scratches in groups of three, growling, possession, and the smell of sulphur. However, encountering a demon during a ghost hunt is highly unlikely unless deliberate summoning has taken place. If you are still worried, it’s always worth knowing a demonologist.
