This is a guide to ghosts and hauntings

As both a clairvoyant and paranormal investigator, I often encounter questions about hauntings, ghosts, and spirits. People often inquire about the nature of ghosts, their relationship to spirits, whether they are trapped, and how we can communicate with them.

Ghosts are believed to be the souls or spirits of deceased individuals or animals that have the ability to manifest themselves to the living. Descriptions of ghosts can vary significantly, ranging from subtle invisible presences to full-bodied apparitions.

Recordings of past events:
The Stone Tape Theory is a paranormal idea suggesting that buildings and landscapes can โ€œrecordโ€ intense emotions or traumatic events, like fear, grief, or violence, and later โ€œreplayโ€ them like a recording under the right conditions.
Certain individuals hold the belief that events can somehow be “recorded” at the location where they occurred, leading to their “replay” at different times. Although this phenomenon lacks a concrete explanation, some theories suggest that these occurrences are related to ghosts. Many others have reported witnessing ghostly recordings of armies at war on old battlefields. Another famous example is the ghostly recording of Catherine Howard, Henry VIII’s wife, who is said to be seen running down a corridor in an attempt to escape her captors.

Anniversary ghosts:
Anniversary ghosts are a type of recording-like ghost. They are known to haunt on the anniversary of a specific incident. Throughout the years, people have reported ghostly scenes depicting past murders and suicides during these anniversaries.

Presences:
While some individuals report seeing ghosts or hearing footsteps in empty hallways, others experience a strong sense of presence. This feeling can be associated with a particular room or area of a house and can sometimes have a gendered or animalistic quality. Even in the absence of any visual or auditory phenomena, these presences can evoke positive or negative emotions. You may sense that something significant or unfortunate occurred in that location. Sometimes, the presence can even convey the identity of the person associated with it.

Orbs:
Orbs are a phenomenon often encountered and discussed in the field of paranormal investigations. They are typically described as round, translucent, or semi-transparent spheres that appear in photographs or videos, particularly in locations believed to be haunted or spiritually active.

In the context of paranormal investigations, orbs are often attributed to the presence of spirits or energy manifestations. Believers argue that these orbs represent the visible form of spiritual beings or entities. Some theories suggest that orbs could be the concentrated energy or essence of departed souls, while others propose that they may be residual energy imprints left behind by past events or emotions.

Poltergeist:
Poltergeist activity is a commonly reported phenomenon, although many ghost hunters do not consider it to be the work of ghosts. While ghosts are typically associated with apparitions in haunted places, poltergeists are often attributed to a haunted person. The term “poltergeist” originates from the German words for “noisy ghost,” which aptly describes their behavior. Poltergeist phenomena encompass a wide range of paranormal events, including interference with electrical equipment, object movement and throwing, presences, and apparitions, among others.

These activities are frequently reported in homes where stressed-out teenagers reside, and many individuals seek assistance from religious organisations to address this type of haunting.

Interactive Ghosts:
Interactive ghosts differ from recording-type ghosts and lack the aggressive and violent nature of poltergeists. They provide primary evidence for the potential existence of survival after death. An interactive ghost may be aware of your presence and may even address you by name. It may follow your movements, and on occasion, it may identify itself in some manner. Interactive ghosts often identify themselves as deceased loved ones, and spiritualists believe these apparitions represent life after death.

Time Slips:
What may initially appear as an interactive ghost could potentially be a time slip. Some reported ghost encounters might involve a time slip, a situation where a window opens between two distinct periods in time. During a time-slip, two individuals can see each other, but they may belong to different moments in history. It is unclear whether time is shifting or if we are merely perceiving another time.

Ghosts of the Living:
Doppelgangers have been known for centuries, and they refer to situations where a living person is seen in two different places, usually in proximity, simultaneously. Traditionally, doppelgangers are considered omens of death, similar to crisis apparitions.

Other categories of this phenomena exist, although “doppelgรคnger” has become a term that encompasses most cases:

Many of these cases could be attributed to mistaken identity or other human errors. However, the difficulty increases when multiple incidents involving the same person are reported and verified by different individuals.

Ghosts of the Dying and Crisis Apparitions:
Ghosts of the dying and crisis apparitions provide a link between evidence for the survival of the spirit and out-of-body experiences. Some crisis apparitions have alerted and warned people about dangerous situations, enabling them to survive. This suggests an ability to transcend the physical body in spirit form and communicate with others. There is also evidence that after death or just before, individuals have appeared to their relatives or friends to explain their passing before the news reaches them.

Shadow People:
Shadow people are a peculiar phenomenon widely known due to the countless accounts of people who have encountered them. These enigmatic entities appear as humanoid figures, characterised by their dark and featureless appearance. When encountering shadow people, one cannot discern any facial features such as eyes, nose, mouth, or ears. Interestingly, they are often perceived in one’s peripheral vision. Although shadow people typically lack visible clothing details, there is a captivating subset known as the “Hat Man,” where witnesses have reported seeing a shadowy figure wearing a distinctive hat.

Elemental Hauntings:
The nature of these hauntings can indeed be perplexing. While it may be appropriate to label them as hauntings, the classification remains somewhat uncertain. Elementals, a term used to describe inhuman spirits, have existed for an extensive period, perhaps even since time immemorial. When we mention elementals, various entities come to mind, such as faeries, elves, sprites, and will-o-wisps, among others.

Haunted Objects:
Similar to people and places, objects can also be haunted. Ghosts can attach themselves to an object and continue to manifest their presence, even if the object is moved to a different location.

Deathbed visions:
Deathbed visions or deathbed phenomena are frequently recounted by individuals involved in the care of the dying, such as nurses and hospice workers. It is a phenomenon observed as individuals approach the end of their lives. According to belief, during this time, the dying person may be visited by departed friends and loved ones. Reports even extend to sightings of angels or manifestations of Jesus Christ. It is not uncommon for a person in their final moments to emerge from a comatose state and proclaim the presence of their deceased spouse in the room. In some cases, they may engage in conversations with individuals who are not physically present, providing an intriguing glimpse into this extraordinary occurrence.
